Summary
Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 albums that I have collected over the past 45 years or more.
This is an early original 2nd label variation 1st UK Kinney pressing of Led Zeppelin’s Led Zeppelin III album released in 1970.
This variation is on the Atlantic Green/Orange labels. The album has always been stored in a case with the vinyl removed from the cover and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records.
Visually the vinyl looks barely played in my opinion. I struggle to see any spider marks at all around the spindle hole.
Visually the vinyl looks very nice and I find it hard to even see a blemish on the playing surface at all. No needle scratches or marks that would certainly cause any loud constant clicks or pops just beautiful vibrant sound quality.
This is complete with the original E.J.Day & Co printed gatefold cover with no splits or tears. Note: This is the original 1st issued cover featureing the earliest original catalogue number 2401 002 on the spine but the Kinney sticker is on the inside of the cover. only found like this on the earliest Kinney Pressings. Later press only feature the Kinney catalogue numbers on the spine.
For me the audio quality has always been my prime interest with vinyl. Lovely vibrant clean sound very rarely found on these pressings which are usually notorious for bad sounding vinyls from my experience.
Recording:
I have played many copies to try also to find the best sounding copy for myself. No distortion and certainly no loud constant clicks or pops. Background static/crackle noticed is very isolated /minimal in quieter places to mention my opinion. You can hear the complete album yourself in the player below. Extremely hard to get a copy like this. Audio graded at least excellent plus to very near mint in my opinion! Superb bassey feel with stunning audio separation throughout!
Please Listen to the recording of this vinyl: This is the actual recording from the vinyl:

The Vinyl
On visual inspection this looks superb in my opinion. The playing surface is certainly free from any nasty audio sounding scratches. Any surface marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal type scuffs only. The vinyl also lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warping. Importantly, there are no visual marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops during the play of this vinyl. This record has certainly not been played that much at all.
The Audio Quality
I have play tested the vinyl two times on two different turntables/systems at very loud volume prior to this listing. Please listen to the recording in the player below.
Crystal clear and vibrant stunning top audio throughout the play of this vinyl. (Please Note, It is easy to be critical about these seventies pressings and it is very common to hear static/crackle/ticks even on the best looking vinyls.) Any static, crackle or ticks heard was very isolated and minimal perhaps heard in quieter places only or in between tracks, but I am sure finally with constant cleaning this will clear up even better. I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to near as mint through out!
An audio Archive copy never need to upgrade from this vinyl in my opinion!
Please note! Allowances must be made for these early to mid seventies Atlantic pressings. They are notorious for static crackle/ ticks in quieter places. I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for very light isolated static type ticks that might be noticed in quieter places, but not consistent through out the audio. Debris was noted on the playing surface after play. A constant cleaning before each play is recommended because this vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 40 years. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static ticks/ crackle. constant cleaning before each play will reduce this and enhance the audio quality.
The Labels
This is the original 2nd label variation, the 1st UK Kinney labeled issue on the Atlantic Green and orange labels. Later press had smooth labels. Amazingly, I struggle to see any real spider marks even angled to the light. There is certainly little if no spindle wear the hole is perfectly round.
The Record Sleeve
This is the original paper record sleeve. This is straight and generally clean with some very, very slight aging at the edges to mention only , but not really noticed unless looked for in my opinion! There are no edge splits or tears.
The Cover
This is the original 1st UK issue fully laminated gate fold cover, also printed and made by E.J.Day & co. This features the original Atlantic Delux 2401 002 catalogue number on the spine, also features the Kinney sticker on the inside of the gatefold. (only earliest Kinney pressings later press feature the kinney catalogue only) No nasty creases to report just minor creases storage wear only but you have to look to notice in my opinion. Noted light creases on the front opening edge to mention.
Please note: There are some laminate crease lines at the rear in the laminate only, which is a manufacturers defect and commonly seen on this album. Any edge rubbing is very slight only and not noticed unless looked for in my opinion.. The spine is generally straight an square. The colours are rich and very vibrant.
The rotating wheel is also fully functional. I would grade this cover at least better than excellent in my opinion.
